A quick rundown I immediately notice that they are missing clear channels application "iheartradio" but they seemed to hit the big contenders.
And of course I'd be on the lookout for when Lala.com releases their application. That's going to be a big one since it's letting you access your own library from anywhere. That might blow the rest of them away.
Last.fm / CBS hands over listening info to RIAA
So then. wow. I have totally gone to bat for last.fm more times than I can count and you know what? Technically they haven't done anything wrong. But I feel like if they weren't owned by a major corporation they wouldn't have given up the info.
Of course right now this is all rumor and hearsay but it brings to light the obvious question that we are openly giving away information about ourselves that has the potential to hurt us. Do we give that up in favor of gaining something we find useful? Thoughts?
Cool little application that does what it says.
Add your tweets to your last.fm page!
It could be better, but it could be worse.
So Last.fm has granted my lowly nonsubscriber self access to their new website design that is currently in beta.
Things I like:
- The Organization in general
- the 'dashboard' is way less annoying. YAY!
- My Library is pretty cool and very user friendly.
- Yay for seeing your "loved tracks"
- Adding descriptions to the track profiles (although this might get used for lyrics and for some reason last.fm used to be very ANTI that)
- Radio's seem awesome and intuitive. PLUS more full songs??!
Things I don't like:
- how comments CONSUME the page.... seriously. I cut these down. It goes on for MILES.
- I'm MEH about the activity feeds... I mean I don't think people need to know all the events I create. Cause I kinda do that all the time.
- I'm also MEH to the fact that you can add an artist to you "library" even if you haven't scrobbled them.
- taste-o-meter is horrifically bland now.
- how web 2.0 or 3.0 they are trying to be.
ps. the strikethroughs just means that it's not ready yet. not that they are not doing them.
as April 30th fast approaches I might have a lack of concerts coming up. So I'm sad to say that I probably won't be posting many concert reviews here anymore. Hopefully maybe the occasional awesome one but honestly I've been crossposting everything over to my Last.FM anyway so just head over there if you're interested.
I've decided that for now I'm going to dedicate this journal into this oil crisis because it's something that's been long ignored (in my eyes as well as the rest of the US).
Today I saw a gas attendant raising Denver gas to 3.90. I might be dating myself but I remember when I got my driver's license it was 99 cents.
People need to wake up and look around them. We need to change and we need to change now.
I've found this the most enlightening - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil - this is stuff you don't learn in school.
BUT YOU SHOULD
So once a week i go pick up this MASSIVE roll of flyers and handbills to spread around town and I usually hit up about 4 places. I think that's pretty good but I feel bad because alot of it goes to waste. The places I go have pretty small boards so I don't get to put up duplicates or anything... oh well whatev.
on the yay side it has caused me to be going to a TON more shows. My next one is Forgive Durden (SQUEEE) this Wednesday and then Single File in December.
*dances*
I love concerts.
oooh so on my last post i was like "last.fm needs to put up lyrics" apparently they don't because they are worried about copyright...weird.
PS. BUY THE BRAND NEW CD.
I GOT MY BRAND NEW CD IN THE MAIL TODAY.
*dances*
it's crazy cause the disc packaging is CRAZY THIN it feels like it's a single or something but it's got a slip for the cd and a slip for the booklet. and yes the rumors are correct because they ARE asking for us to send them a dollar for the lyrics.... if the rumor that i heard is true (you get them photocopied from jesse lacey's journal or something) it might be worth it. i have to decide once more people get back on it.
there is definitly this simple undercurrent of anti labelness to the
whole thing. like they are ANTI promotion of the cd. which is what
happens when a band doesn't want to be with: they basically don't push
themselves they try to not sell what the label expects so that they
will drop them.
....
and a friend of theirs recently did that (Brandon Reilly purposfully
put out a bad album demo since he didn't want to be on a label anymore
so that he could then form Nightmare of You)
oh man. so someone was also gracious enough to put up the hidden track so i have that on my computer now too. I'm too like....yayyyyyyy....
i have to listen to the actual cd though because i have this feeling that they did this to alot of songs so that if you listen to them on your computer? You might be missing out.
So far Millstone is my favorite new favorite of the "i haven't heard before". You won't know is also up there but I've seen that live..and really all the ones I've seen live i love (luca and sowing season).
My favorite demo didn't make the cut but I've heard that they HAVE played it live so it might leak eventually as another bside on another single...*crosses fingers* i love it the way it is though so even if i didn't i'll just keep listening to it in demo form.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
beyond happy for this cd and i'm liking it.
and a weird sidenote? Last.fm should let us post lyrics to the song info. i mean...duh obvious right?
