So my cousin couldn't wait anymore but luckily my infection has subsided thanks to these overly priced antibiotics.
She's been crashing at one of her friends apartments for the time being but hasn't found a place to put her extra stuff so she really needs my extra car to get it all home.
With gas prices at 6.18 it makes me a bit worried for this 7 hour trip up into no mans land (aka South Dakota)... we'll see I guess. But if you haven't heard from me in a week or two send a search party.
I'll be doing voice updates into worldwithoutoil to let you guys know what I see.
I was sick but the gas prices didn't seem to care.
Technically I still am sick. I basically have strep.
But gas prices are continuing to rise and my cousin is getting kicked out of her dorm this week. They granted out of state students a little bit longer to move out this year due to the gas prices but they have to clean all the rooms and get them ready for camps that come in.
Lovely.
So I'm going to head up there and see if we can't find some place reasonable to store all the stuff we can't fit in her or my car. Hopefully somewhere cheap like a friends house.
Most NYC drivers oppose mayor's new $8 fee...
NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York drivers opposed Mayor Michael Bloomberg's new traffic-fighting $8 fee for taking a car into Manhattan, a survey said on Thursday, and almost half of the group said it would force them out of their cars.
Wow. All of a sudden I'm very happy I never moved to New York City. Don't get me wrong I love the people but I think both sides have the wrong idea of this whole thing.
Why wouldn't you be carpooling already anyway?? But I'm not in NYC so perhaps I don't understand everyone's point of views...
Some legislators who represent the city's four outer boroughs have slammed the new congestion fee. They say the plan hits poor residents the hardest, explaining they often must drive as commuting by bus or subway just takes too long.
So in a related article they gave tips on ways to save money on commuting but much of it honestly much use? Typical. Here's the link anyways. It did have this handy Calculator telling you what driving to work REALLY costs.

this came to me courtesy my friend in Canada:
Pump prices jump overnight
Six foreign oil workers were snatched when gunmen armed with dynamite boarded the ship. A Nigerian sailor was killed in the incident, a Nigerian navy spokesman said.
California-based Chevron said it was closing production on about 15,000 barrels of oil daily because of the attack.
Low supply levels in the U.S. combined with high demand have also contributed to the price hike, industry analysts say. Also, in early spring, refiners typically bump up their margins, gearing up for the summer driving months.
yep so today i went on an adventure on the lightrail to demonstrate how ill prepared mass transportation really is. Honestly it isn't that bad. But when everyone realizes that 3 dollars round trip into the city is cheaper than paying 4.12 for gas (not to mention parking) then these small flaws might become big cracks in the side of a dam

Not directly related to oil but your CO2 output is usually a factor of how much energy you are consuming and alot of energy comes from oil. The majority of my emissions came from my stupid wrangler but i won't whine about that right now.
While cruising the website I also found this good general guide to help you start thinking green.
Inflate your car tires. When walking or biking isn't feasible, you can do something to better protect the Earth while driving. Take a step in the right direction by inflating your car tires. Pumping them up can improve your gas mileage by about 3.3 percent – a savings of about 7 cents per gallon. It‘s the right thing to do for your wallet and the right thing to do for the Earth.
It also directed me to this great website http://www.localharvest.org/.
It's a directory of local food supplier and farmers in your area.
I'll write more in depth stuff later after my mind can wrap around this more.
as April 30th fast approaches I might have a lack of concerts coming up. So I'm sad to say that I probably won't be posting many concert reviews here anymore. Hopefully maybe the occasional awesome one but honestly I've been crossposting everything over to my Last.FM anyway so just head over there if you're interested.
I've decided that for now I'm going to dedicate this journal into this oil crisis because it's something that's been long ignored (in my eyes as well as the rest of the US).
Today I saw a gas attendant raising Denver gas to 3.90. I might be dating myself but I remember when I got my driver's license it was 99 cents.
People need to wake up and look around them. We need to change and we need to change now.
I've found this the most enlightening - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil - this is stuff you don't learn in school.
BUT YOU SHOULD
I'd just like to take this short time out to make people think about how much money goes into gas on the part of musicians while touring.
A LOT.
Most bands travel across the country and back doing something around 2000 miles? That's alot of gas. And it isn't like the 36 mpg gas efficiency either it's "we're in a van hauling this trailer" gas mileage which is probably something like 15 mpg (which is actually what my jeep gets and i hate it).
I have to commend Piebald for thinking smart and thinking green with Grease Not Gas. It's kind of amazing to think how efficient and cheap it is just to convert an old diesel engine into something that runs on grease. I talked with the merch guy and he said that they never usually have any trouble finding some. Worst part is the filtering (when they aren't lazy of course).
It makes me worried that without gas I would have no concerts to go to. Crazy thought right?
